Crumple Terms of Use
Last updated: August 1, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the developer of Crumple ("we", "us"), reachable at me@amalia.codes. By downloading or using the Crumple app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Crumple on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where those restrictions are prohibited by law.
2. What Crumple does
Crumple is a receipt and expense tracker. Scanning, storage, and CSV export are free. An optional AI extraction feature fills in expense fields from the text recognized on a receipt; this feature is available through the free trial, a Crumple Pro subscription, or an API key you supply yourself.
3. Crumple Pro subscriptions
Crumple Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered as a monthly plan ($2.99 CAD) and a yearly plan ($24.99 CAD). Prices may vary by region and are shown in the app before purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your device's Settings (Apple Account → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Billing, refunds, and payment disputes are handled by Apple under Apple's terms; we never receive your payment details. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
4. Free trial
New installs receive a small number of free AI extractions (currently three) so you can try the feature before subscribing. The trial requires no account or payment information and does not convert into a paid subscription automatically. We may change or discontinue the trial allowance at any time; extractions already provided are unaffected.
5. Fair use of the AI service
Pro extraction is subject to a daily usage allowance (currently up to 40 extractions per day) to keep the service fast and affordable for everyone. We may throttle, suspend, or block requests that appear automated, abusive, or unrelated to genuine receipt tracking. The AI service depends on third-party providers and may occasionally be slow or unavailable; we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
6. Using your own API key
If you configure your own Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude API key, extraction requests are sent directly from your device to that provider under its own terms, pricing, and privacy policy. You are responsible for keeping your key secure and for any charges the provider bills you.
7. Not tax, accounting, or legal advice
Crumple helps you organize expense records, and its reminders reflect our understanding of common CRA documentation rules — but nothing in the app is tax, accounting, or legal advice. AI extraction can make mistakes: always verify extracted amounts against the original receipt before relying on them. You are solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of your records, for retaining them as long as the law requires, and for your tax filings. When in doubt, consult a qualified accountant or tax professional.
8. Your data and backups
Your records are stored only on your device, as described in the Privacy Policy. Because we hold no copy, you are responsible for backing up your device and exporting your records; deleting the app permanently deletes everything in it, and we cannot recover it.
9. Acceptable use
You agree to use Crumple only for lawful purposes and not to interfere with, probe, overload, or circumvent the limits of the extraction service, nor to use it to process content you have no right to process.
10. Intellectual property
The app, its design, name, and icon are our property and are protected by law. Your receipts and records are yours; these Terms give us no rights over your content beyond what is needed to provide the extraction feature you request.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
Crumple is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or tax penalties, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for Crumple Pro in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer protection law.
13. Termination
You may stop using Crumple at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the AI extraction service if you materially breach these Terms. Sections 7 through 12 survive termination.
14. Apple
These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to it, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
15. Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes to these Terms, this page will be updated and the date above revised before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Canadian province or territory in which you reside and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. If you live outside Canada, mandatory consumer protection rules of your home jurisdiction still apply to you.
