Crumple Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Crumple is a receipt and expense tracker built to keep your data on your iPhone. There are no Crumple accounts, no Crumple servers that store your data, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you record — receipt photos, payment-slip photos, amounts, merchants, categories, notes, and every other expense detail — is stored only inside the app on your device. Receipt photos never leave your iPhone. Your records are included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud or computer), which is managed by Apple under your Apple Account, and you can export a complete CSV archive at any time.
What is sent out, and when
Crumple can fill in expense fields automatically using AI. When you use this feature, only the text recognized from a receipt on your device — never the photo — is sent for extraction. Where it goes depends on how you've set the app up:
- With Crumple Pro: the recognized text is sent to Crumple's extraction service (a Cloudflare Worker) which forwards it to Google's Gemini API and returns the extracted fields. The text is processed to answer your request and is not stored by Crumple.
- With your own API key: the recognized text is sent directly from your iPhone to the provider you configured (Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude), under that provider's terms and privacy policy. Your API keys are stored in the iPhone Keychain.
- With neither: a simpler on-device parser is used and nothing is sent anywhere.
Crumple Pro subscriptions
Subscriptions are purchased through Apple. Crumple never sees your name, email address, or payment details. To verify that a request comes from an active subscriber and to apply the daily usage allowance, the app sends Apple's signed transaction receipt with each extraction request. The extraction service keeps only an anonymous transaction identifier and a daily request count, which expire automatically within 48 hours. This identifier cannot be used to determine who you are.
What Crumple never collects
- No account, sign-up, email address, or password
- No receipt photos leaving your device
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers, analytics, or third-party trackers
- No sale or sharing of personal information with anyone
Data retention and deletion
Because your records live only on your iPhone, deleting an expense in the app deletes it, and deleting the app deletes everything. Crumple holds nothing to delete on any server. Tax rule of thumb for Canadian users: the CRA expects business records to be kept for six years — export a CSV before deleting anything you may need.
Children
Crumple is a business expense tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If Crumple's data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the date above revised before the change takes effect.
